![]() ![]() “One of the most significant barriers that the neurodivergent community faces in relation to the workplace is that neurodiversity still isn't included in most companies' DEI strategies. ![]() This is where celebrating neurodiversity events fit into the narrative – in the face of sustained bias we still need to counter the negative stereotypes and narratives. The ideas are there, but the delivery is lacking. There’s a lot more data we could explore but a consistent message that we still a long way to go in terms of the systemic exclusion faced by those who have an unusual neurotype. In education, while diagnosis and accommodation for Autism was improving, a 2021 review of UK’s education found that Black, Asian and Roma Autistic children were less likely than white children to receive formal support, this result was compounded for girls. However, as recently as 2020, the UK’s Institute of Leadership and Management published a report indicating that while 1 in 7 employees are neurodivergent, 32% of managers would feel uncomfortable employing someone with ADHD or Tourettes and just 19% felt certain that neurominorities were covered in their organization’s bullying and harassment policies. ![]()
